Victorian Patients' Experience of Cancer Care Survey (VPECCS)

Victorian Patients' Experience of Cancer Care Survey (VPECCS)

The Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) have provided GICS funds to support the local implementation of the Victorian Patients' Experience of Cancer Care Survey (VPECCS) Toolkit.

The VPECCS is a questionnaire designed to collect information about the care experiences of patients treated for cancer in Victorian hospitals. The survey aims to understand patients' experiences regarding their interactions with healthcare providers and provision of information and supportive care services throughout their cancer journey: from diagnosis and treatment through to follow-up. The information collected through the survey can be utilised by hospitals and health services in their quality improvement initiatives, and provides a platform for benchmarking care experiences at a state and/or treatment centre level.

GICS is managing the VPECCS on behalf of service providers in the Grampians Region. Following an expressions of interest process, 6 out 8 cancer service providers agreed to participate in the survey.

These services include:
  • Ballarat Health Service (BHS)
  • Ballarat Austin Radiation Oncology Centre (BAROC)
  • St John of God Ballarat (SJOG)
  • Wimmera Healthcare Group (WHCG)
  • Stawell Regional Health (SRH)
  • East Grampians Health Service (EGHS)

Ethics approval has been granted, and it is anticipated data collection will commence in May 2018.
