Acupuncture Program in the BRICC Wellness Centre

Many women with breast cancer experience debilitating hot flushes causing deterioration in quality of life and relationships. Medications are not always effective in treating hot flushes and often have unpleasant side effects. In the worst-case scenario patients may stop treatment all together.

Acupuncture is offered to treat hot flushes at leading cancer centres worldwide.

Benefits include:

  • Reduction in hot flushes
  • Improved quality of life
  • Improved energy
  • Improved general wellbeing

This project is undertaking a pilot study to determine the feasibility of delivering acupuncture to treat women suffering from hot flushes.

Project progress
  • Clinical practice guidelines completed
  • Multiple internal approvals received
  • Clinician and consumer surveys completed
  • Referral and patient information forms completed
  • It is planned that participants will start receiving treatment in the coming month
