New Look Cancer Learning Site!
Comments from the Cancer Learning team...
"On the first anniversary of the launch of Cancer Learning, we are delighted to announce that the dynamic, new look site is now live! Unveiled at the recent COSA ASM, the new design simplifies site navigation and features an enhanced search feature based on an SQL database of resources which will improve search capacity. Early in the New Year, the site will also be available in a format that can be downloaded to PDAs and hand held devices, so you can take your professional development anywhere with you! The redesign is a result of your feedback and comments over the past year and we’d love to hear what you think of the new site and any suggestions you may have for further developments that will make it as user-friendly, accessible and intuitive as possible. Email us: info@cancerlearning.gov.au or complete the online site evaluation: http://www.cancerlearning.gov.au/feedback/.
This month we are also very excited to let you know about the latest case study, Lymphoma, added to the EdCaN suite of learning resources; to launch the latest Cancer Learning-developed learning module, Clinician:Manager Connect for your feedback and evaluation; and advise you of the new educational resources and activities we have recently included on the site. And before the end of the year is upon us, we hope to bring you one more update launching the remaining EdCaN supporting resources and providing you with information about SpacedEd, our new flexible learning platform. All this and Christmas shopping – we’ll be busy!"
eviQ Cancer Treatments Online - CI-SCaT evolution
eviQ Cancer Treatments Online available now
Launched October 2009! eviQ Cancer Treatments Online (the evolution of CI-SCaT) is a single repository of standardised, current, evidence based, peer reviewed information about clinical cancer treatments. Designed by medical oncologists to reduce unnecessary practice variation, eviQ provides clinicians, primary carers, patients and carers in all clinical and geographical settings with free, 24 hour access to comprehensive, filtered information relevant to the Australian context covering a variety of targeted content areas including cancer genetics, haematology, haemopoietic progenitor cell transplantation (HPCT), medical oncology, nursing, patient information, radiation oncology and primary health care.
The brand new eviQ Primary Care page is designed to support clinicians at point of care and provides free access to cancer treatment protocols and procedure specific patient information, containing a suite of resources including a searchable database of cancer symptoms and cancer medications including information about adverse reactions; an opioid calculator and links to many other credible sources of cancer information.
You can access eviQ from the front page of Cancer Learning, or you can log on to https://www.eviq.org.au/ directly to receive you free registration and user name for full access to the available information and accompanying clinical tools.
Cancer Council Victoria - Clinical Trial Website
At first glance the VCTL database appears to be just a database about clinical trials available to patients in Victoria and therefore similar to clinicaltrials.gov or the ANZ Clinical Trials Registry but VCTL has additional functionality in that it matches patients to trials according to selection criteria that have been defined by the various tumour stream-specific VCOG committees and it also lists direct contact details for all participating sites to enable appropriate referrals to be made.
The purpose of this project was to develop a web based system that collects the clinical characteristics of an individual patient and match the eligibility to the available trials in a web database. Matching can be restricted to an individual hospital, integrated cancer service or across the whole of Victoria. The service is available to both consumers and cancer clinicians and does not require registration so is quick and simple to use.
Once a suitable trial has been identified, the searcher is directed to more detailed information via a hyperlink to the trial registry site or they can print off the VCTL information to take to his/her clinician. This project is significant for clinicians and patients across the whole state of Victoria, hopefully bringing access and information about clinical trials to a much wider percentage of the population.
